2023 Bourgogne Blanc Hautes Côtes de Nuits La Montagne Truchetet
£170.00 In Bond-
Goedhuis Waddesdon, December 2024
As the name of this lieu dit suggests, the vineyard for this cuvée sits at altitude and on a rocky outcrop of eroded limestone. 70% fermented in oak barrels, and the rest in clay amphorae, this wine shows lovely, layered aromatics with notes of freshly-churned butter, yellow plums, smoke, and savoury nutmeg spice. A core of ripe citrus fruit is supported by fresh, saline acidity that speaks of the limestone bedrock and ensures a moreish finish.

£190.00 In Bond-
Goedhuis Waddesdon, December 2024
The vineyards of Saint Romain are the highest in the Côte d’Or, sitting between 350 and 410m above sea level, and their soils contain a significant proportion of active limestone. 70% fermented in oak barrels, and the rest in clay amphorae, this Chardonnay has enticing aromas of confit lemons, greengages, whipped butter and a savoury smokiness. The ripe, plush core is sustained by a lemon-driven acidity that keeps the wine fresh and lively.

Lying just over the road from Domaine de l’Arlot’s Clos des Fôrets, Les Chaillots is a 1-hectare vineyard with a mix of iron-rich pebbles and clay soils and a reputation for producing small, concentrated berries. The old vine fruit for this cuvée adds another layer of depth and intensity. Bright, high-toned and red fruit focussed, the 2023 has a core of crunchy cherry fruit, lively acidity and a savoury, earthy edge. The tannins have a firm grip, but are ripe, and will mellow beautifully with a little time.

True to the name of this lieu dit, the vineyard for this cuvée sits at altitude and on a rocky outcrop of eroded limestone. Lifted, bright and full of redcurrant and lightly floral aromas, this is a very fresh, precise expression of Pinot Noir. Great purity on the mid-palate gives way to a mineral texture and blood orange acidity that deliver great tension and drive. The limestone influence runs through this wine from start to finish.

Jancis Robinson, January 2025, Score: 16
Smoky aroma, a little like slightly burnt popcorn but actually quite pleasant. White peach fruit, delicate but pretty and fresh. A kind of canned-grapefruit sweet-citrus note which is actually much more delicious than it sounds. This is rather good.

2023 Auxey-Duresses Le Plain de Lugny Vignoble de Pauline Truchetet
£170.00 In Bond-
Goedhuis Waddesdon, December 2024
The Plain de Lugny vineyard sits towards the western end of a crescent-shaped swathe of vineyards that runs south-west from Saint Romain, along the line of the Melin rivulet. Pauline’s grandfather planted vines here in 1972, banking on the site’s limestone soils and full southern exposure. This cuvée is handled very gently to ensure an appealing heart of soft, ripe fruit. The 2023 displays bright aromatics of redcurrant, pomegranate and raspberry. The pure, vibrant palate has a cool limestone clarity, lasting freshness and supple, ripe tannin, giving an elegant expression of Auxey Duresses.

The fruit for this cuvée comes from three plots situated underneath the hill of Comblanchien on light, friable clay soils. This terroir brings a darker fruit profile to the wine, with aromas of Morello cherry and wild bramble fruits seasoned with a touch of nutmeg spice. Rounded and luscious, the core of pretty fruit is held together by ripe tannins with a pleasing, chalky grip. Refreshing, juicy acidity and a lift of black pepper on the finish make for an eminently charming wine.

Goedhuis Waddesdon, December 2024
Made from half a hectare of superbly positioned vines just below the famous Clos de la Maréchale, this is a highly fragrant cuvée with captivating floral notes, which Pauline likens to blackcurrant blossom, and aromas of wild strawberry. Bright, pretty and elegant, the palate shows sweet red cherry fruit upfront, fine-grained, supple tannins and a driving mineral tension.

Matthew Jukes, January 2025, Score: 17.5+
This is the one red that I thought about all week. I could not get its flavour and poise out of my mind. It captures Pinot Noir's beauty without adding any excess in any department – perfume, flavour, finish, balance, oak, acidity, juiciness or weight. It is pinpoint accurate in every way, and it will not fall over for six or seven years either, so get in quick. This is a genuine discovery...

Juicy and sweet. Raspberries, squelching with fruit and juice. Playful but with graceful structure and a peppery poufff at the end.

£240.00 In Bond-
Goedhuis Waddesdon, December 2024
Lieu dit Les Topons sits to the north of Prémeaux Prissey, just over the road from a bank of Premiers Crus vineyards. The 2023 is still relatively shy, with a restrained, savoury nose supported by bright notes of fresh cranberries. On the palate, this is a lively, highly energetic red wine with chalky tannins that feel tightly coiled and a streak of minerality holding everything together. A wine that will undoubtedly unfurl over time.

Goedhuis Waddesdon, December 2024
Fruit from two neighbouring lieux dits, Clos Solon and Bas Chenevery, is combined to great effect in this cuvée. With a nose reminiscent of Morello cherry compote, pomegranate and a hint of iron-rich earth, this is a muscular Pinot with good density and broad, ripe tannins. Lifted, fresh acidity and overt mineral tension keep the wine lively and engaging.

The grapes for this cuvée come from two neighbouring lieux dits just outside Prémeaux Prissey; Les Charbonnières, where Truchetet’s vines are 100 years old, and Les Topons, where they are 70 years old. The veteran vines bring layers of complexity to this full and concentrated wine, but the hallmark fruit purity of the 2023 vintage still shines through. With a lifted nose of pomegranate, wild red berries and a hint of violet perfume, the palate is ripe, rounded and weighty with tannins that are at once silky and elegantly spun. A light touch of pepper brings this lively, seductive Pinot to a satisfying close.

Jancis Robinson, January 2025, Score: 17
Smells concentrated. Darker fruit, plum and damson. Silk and driftwood fissure on the tannins. Real power and concentration here for a village wine. A touch of clove and cough medicine. Ginkgo. Warm and intense and velvety.
