Wine Advocate, December 2004, Score: 92
2000 Revello Barolo Gattera-Medium ruby. A gorgeous wine that shows layers and layers of rich crushed raspberry fruit and mineral flavors. Finishes with excellent sense of freshness. A beautifully structured and complete wine that is absolutely wonderful right now. 92 points/drink after 2008. - Antonio Galloni

Wine Spectator, Jul 2004, Score: 95
This shows beautiful perfumes of raspberries and strawberries, with just a hint of roses. Full-bodied, with extremely refined, silky tannins and a long finish of sweet, ripe fruit. Balanced and elegant. A joy to taste. The Gattera vineyard covers about 50 acres near La Morra and Revello owns a tiny piece of it. Best after 2009. 450 cases made. -JS

Thus our Barolo tour started by stumbling uponthe Revello family - er, the coffee roasters. But fear not, our Barolo brothers, Enzo and Carlo(though no relation), were merely due northwest and tucked behind yet another bend in the road.A star among modern styled Barolo producers, the Revello brothers began making wine from theirfamily-owned estate in 1992 following a 5-year winemaking sabbatical. Since their return, they havereceived many excellent reviews by major international critics who commend them on their purityof fruit and exceptional richness. Insiders have described them as the next Elio Altare, but we just like them for being Revellos - the right ones, that is.Read less
Region
Barolo
With Brunello in Tuscany, Barolo is undoubtedly Italy's finest wine producing region. Located in Piedmont in the north west of Iataly Barolo is comprised of 5 major communes - Barolo, Monteforte d'Alba, La Morra, Castiglione Falletto and Serralunga d'Alba - though the latter three tend to represent the main styles of the region. The wines are compelling and polished - an exemplary expression of the Nebbiolo grape. DOCG law requires a minimum ageing of 2 years in cask or barrel yet can be longer depending on the producer. Barolos are generally released four or more years after the vintage.
